Partnering with the Michigan Vernal Pools Partnership

The MVPP is a public/private partnership of organizations, businesses, individuals, and agencies that are actively engaged in or otherwise supportive of the conservation of vernal pools. This can look like serving on an MVPP subcommittee, contributing to the Vernal Pool Patrol, or through support of the MVPP mission in another way that is determined by your organization. Organizational partners and participating individuals are vital to the success of the MVPP—not only to share skills, knowledge, and resources, but also to demonstrate the depth and breadth of the people across the state committed to the conservation of vernal pools.

If you are interested in becoming a partner, please fill out this form (New Partner Interest Form) or contact apointer@michigannature.org for more information.

Engage in Community Science with the Vernal Pool Patrol

The Vernal Pool Patrol needs your help!  We are looking for citizen scientists of all ages and backgrounds to help us get more information about vernal pools in Michigan!  If you would like to learn more about these fascinating wetlands, and enjoy spending time outside in nature and participating in science and conservation, this program is for you. Training is offered every year virtually, with in-person field training opportunities, and is free of charge. To learn more about the Vernal Pool Patrol, volunteering, or program coordinating, please visit the Pool Patrol website

To read first hand experiences about what it is like to participate in the Pool Patrol or act as a program coordinator, check out the 2022 Program Evaluation report: Vernal Pool Patrol Program Evaluation.pdf

The Vernal Pool Patrol is coordinated by the Michigan Natural Features Inventory (MNFI), a program of Michigan State University Extension and a partner of the Michigan Vernal Pool Partnership. To learn more about the Vernal Pool Patrol and how you can get involved, please contact Yu Man Lee (leeyum@msu.edu) or Courtney Ross (rosscour@msu.edu) with MNFI.
